Lawyers Alumni Society Annual Meeting and CLE

  • When: Friday, Nov. 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Where: NC State University Club
  • Cost: $45 per person
  • Attire: Business Professional

Join the Lawyers Alumni Society for their annual meeting. Topics include Lenovo Center development and ethical entanglements on the internet.

Lunch will be provided and the day will conclude with a networking reception to connect with fellow alumni.

Parking information: Free parking is provided at the venue.

1 p.m. – What’s New with Generative AI (GAI) for Lawyers

Speaker: Catherine Sanders Reach; Director of the Center for Practice Management; North Carolina Bar Association; Cary, NC

This session will cover the latest advancements in GAI tools and their practical applications in the legal field. We will delve into recent ethics opinions, including the draft opinion from the NCSB. Attendees will learn best practices in prompt engineering to optimize GAI outputs and reduce hallucinations, how to evaluate GAI tools and vendors, and review a few tools in the marketplace for lawyers.

2:05 p.m. – Ethical Entanglements on the Internet

This presentation will address a lawyer’s professional responsibility when using social media in a law practice and during the representation of a client, as well as a lawyer’s responsibility to advise clients on the potential impact of social media regarding the client’s case. The presentation will cover relevant North Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct and North Carolina State Bar ethics opinions, including examples from prior disciplinary cases.

This presentation will cover the statutory creation of the Centennial Authority, statutes applicable to creating public private partnerships, and laws that apply when bidding on work for these types of projects. An update for refurbishing the newly named Lenovo Center will be provided. The plans for developing the land around the Lenovo Center will be presented and government rules regarding zoning will be discussed.
