Eduardo Catalano and the College of Design: A Symposium and Exhibition Celebrating Eduardo Catalano’s Teaching and Practice on his 100th Birthday

November 2, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Eduardo Catalano Catalano sought harmony in science, technology, and the visual arts. He designed the U.S. embassies in Buenos Aires and Pretoria, and the Juilliard School of Music at New York City’s Lincoln Center. In addition to his buildings, Catalano designed and donated a stainless steel sculpture to the city of Buenos Aires in 2002. The 75-foot high Floralis Generica, which has since become a city landmark, has petals that open and close at dawn and dusk.

Catalano taught at the Architectural Association in London until 1951 when he was recruited as a Professor of Architecture by Henry Kamphoefner for the NCSU School of Design and moved to Raleigh. In 1956, he moved to Boston and taught at MIT until 1977.
